Biography and Resume
Before I got in contact with carving sand in 2006 I have worked as a freelancer in several activities: Graphic design, Art direction (and other positions in an art-department) for movies and television, Photography, making illustrations, wall-paintings and designing and technical supporting of presentations (in Power Point and Keynote) at congresses.
Although I'm still working in those other industries, makings sculptures has become one of my main jobs. In 2006 I participated at my first project in Lommel (Belgium). The following year I got the chance to do more projects and met more sand-carvers. Threw those artists I got the possibility to take part in a competition in Berlin (Germany) in 2008.
Threw the years I have been working with several sand sculpture companies: Sandsation, WSSA (de Zandacademie), In Sand (formally known as In Actie), Sand Factory, Sandaholics, Sandworks, SandIce, Zandvorm, ProsasandArt and others.
In 2009 I have been invited to help to organize a sand sculpture event (competition). This turned out to be 'Garderen 2009' (in the Netherlands). It gave me great pleasure and I hope to help organize more events in the future. The following year the festival was invited to be one of the qualifiers for the World Championship in Federal Way (USA).
At the moment I’m making my very first marble-sculpture; another beautiful material. The process is much slower and tougher but, different from my other sculpt work, this will be around for a while..
Still amazed by the relatively small amount of time that is needed to make the sandsculptures and the transience and beauty of the material, I will continue to create my mind and thoughts in sand. Making sand sculptures for me is like a theatre-act; you can enjoy it as long as it is there and than the memory and pictures are the only things that remain..
